Kannon Do Fall Workshops with Marcia Lieberman

October 6, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

Please join us on Saturday, October 6th at 10:30 a.m. for a Dharma Talk and workshop titled “Pen to Paper Sutra Copying” led by long-term Buddhist practitioner and artist Marcia Lieberman.

Using brush and ink is one of the key temple arts practiced by Buddhist monks. During the workshop we will discuss the history of this devotional act, the traditional points of brush meditation and the influence of copying liturgy. We will copy a sutra and zen poems.

The workshop will last approximately two hours. Materials will be provided. Suggested donation is $15.

Registration is required. Please send an email to tbouza@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.

This is the second of three workshops by Marcia to be held at Kannon Do this fall. The first workshop in early September focused on “Creating Sacred Spaces and Altars at Home.”  The third and last workshop will take place on Saturday November 3rd at 10:30am. During this last event, Marcia will present “Sound in Zen Practice.” In addition to exploring sound in the zendo, Marcia will lead participants in a session of group chanting.

Marcia Lieberman has been affiliated with San Francisco Zen Center since 1989. Her affinity for beauty and form in ceremony has been a guiding part of her practice. Lieberman taught in the photography departments at UC Berkeley and California College of the Arts. In 2016 she completed graduate studies in Buddhist scholarship at the Institute for Buddhist Studies, UCB Graduate Theological Seminary.
