A Sense of Something Greater Book Discussion led by Teresa Bouza

October 14 @ 7:55 pm - 9:00 pm

On Wednesday evening, October 14th, please join us for a discussion of our abbot emeritus Les Kaye’s  book  A Sense of Something Greater: Zen and the Search for Balance in Silicon Valley.  For Les, Zen was more than awareness–it is “the continued determination to be authentic in relationships, to create meaningful, intimate, intentional bonds with people, things, and the environment.” In the book, Les’ teachings are paired with interviews with current tech employees and Zen practitioners which were conducted by Teresa.

Teresa was ordained as a priest by Les, and is a journalist, and a caregiver. Born in Latin America and raised in Spain, she spent the majority of her professional career in the United States. A recipient of the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship at Stanford, she worked for The Wall Street Journal, Spain’s global news agency EFE, and the TV station Univision. She co-authored A Sense of Something Greater: Zen and the Search for Balance in Silicon Valley with Les. Teresa is grateful for the beauty she found during the years she practiced meditation with her sangha at Kannon Do Zen Center in Mountain View (California). She loves spending time outdoors, subtle things in the world, and her Dharma name (Zen Breeze). Currently residing in Spain, Teresa recently navigated a deeply personal caregiving journey, providing dedicated care for her mother for seven years until her passing from Alzheimer’s disease last month. Teresa is an instructor for the Zen Caregiving Project where she teaches online classes for family caregivers, introducing them to practical mindfulness-based approaches and tools to build their emotional resilience.
