Elie Calhoun is a social entrepreneur using technology to solve poverty and inequality problems in the world’s most challenging places. Originally from Montana, Elie has lived most of her adult life in Africa, where she has witnessed extreme poverty.
If you plan on attending Sesshin on August 12th please join Ken Simpson for Oryoki training on Saturday, August 5th at 10:30 a.m. Oryoki is the traditional way that Japanese monks eat their food in monasteries. At Sesshin 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) will be eaten Oryoki style. Ken's teaching style is fun and informative.
Join us at 10:30 AM for an Introduction to Zen on August 5th. This orientation is intended primarily for individuals new to Zen practice, as well as experienced practitioners who have questions about their contemplative practice. This informal get together takes place on the first Saturday of the month, lasting about 90 minutes.
Please join us immediately following meditation this Wednesday, August 9th, for a guest talk by Andy Narayanan. Andy started meditating on his own in 2010 and began formal Zen practice at Kannon Do in 2014. He is currently developing an artificial intelligence startup in San Francisco.

Kannon Do will host a one-day meditation retreat, or Sesshin on August 12th. This day of mindfulness offers a rare opportunity to turn our awareness to the simple activities that sustain our lives, and that we normally take for granted: breathing, walking, eating, being attentive to the workings of our mind.
In response to the unsettling developments in the news, notably protests and marches, Kannon Do will hold a special meditation and recitation of the lovingkindness sutra this Saturday in the spirit of peace and nonviolence. Meditation will begin at 9:20 AM.
