Please join us on Saturday September 26th, 10:00am to 11:30 a.m. (Pacific Time), for a “Buddhism in Society” online talk and Q&A session with Rev. Paul Bains, pastor of Saint Samuel Church in East Palo Alto.
In 1999, Rev. Bains co-founded the WeHOPE program, providing shelter, meals, skills training and other life-support services to disadvantaged individuals in the Bay Area. To learn more, see www.WeHOPE.org
Kannon Do members are interested in expanding their understanding of the experiences of African Americans who have endured racism, cruelty, and inequality in the U.S. for the past several hundred years. Our previous guest speakers have spoken about how they struggled to create meaningful lives in an American culture that treats Black people with prejudice in so many ways.
We have asked Rev. Bains to speak about his own experiences, the experiences of his congregation, what role he sees the Black Lives Matter movement playing in the current social and political environment, and any other subject that he feels is relevant to our member’s desire to learn more about racial inequality.
“Buddhism in Society” aims to explore and understand how to bring the principles of awareness, mindfulness and creative responses to difficult problems present in our communities.
