In-person Dharma Talk: Jeremy Levie

September 18 @ 7:55 pm - 9:00 pm

On Wednesday evening, September 18th, Jeremy Levie  will give an in-person Dharma talk followed by a discussion.

Jeremy Levie, born in San Francisco in 1970, grew up in Fresno, California, where he excelled in math and developed a lifelong love of theater. After earning a B.A. in philosophy from Yale University, Jeremy returned to San Francisco and soon discovered the San Francisco Zen Center.  He moved to Tassajara Zen Mountain Center in 1995 and lived and practiced at the three temples of SFZC until the fall of 2019. He was ordained by Eijun Linda Cutts in 2005 and trained as shuso (head monk) with her in the spring of 2009. Jeremy served in various positions of significant responsibility while at SFZC, including as the director and tanto (head of practice) at Green Gulch Farm Zen Center and twice on the SFZC Board of Directors.

Being a father has also been a primary interest and responsibility of Jeremy’s life. His daughter, Elizabeth, was born at Beginner’s Mind Temple in San Francisco in 2001. She recently graduated from Yale University and will begin the Williams Graduate Program in the History of Art at the Clark Art Institute in the fall. Jeremy currently lives again in Fresno, where he offers meditation and practices remotely and in person with his teacher Zoketsu Norman Fischer and the Everyday Zen Foundation. In the spirit of the Everyday Zen community, Jeremy is interested in both his own personal integration and the integration of Zen practice with everyday life.
