“Zazen is boring!”, some people complain. But ‘boring’ is its most important quality. If you come to Zazen for excitement, you are apt to leave disappointed, like most people leaving a casino after the excitement has faded. The state of boredom allows for a calm, clear mind. It is like the clear reflective surface of a pond. When we embrace the state of boredom, only then are we are able to see our own thoughts, and know our own mind.
