This day of mindfulness offers a rare opportunity to turn our awareness to the simple activities that sustain our lives, that we normally take for granted: breathing, walking, eating, being attentive to the workings of our mind.

ZMBM Discussion

Dear Sangha, This coming Wednesday, 8/12, is our monthly discussion of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind. We will be taking a closer look at the chapters on Naturalness (pg 107) and Emptiness (pg 111) found in Part 3 of the book.

Sangha Meeting

Please join us this coming Saturday  at Kannon Do for our regular Sangha meeting beginning at 10:30. During  monthly meetings, the Kannon Do board - and other members and friends who attend -  review the operations of  our center and  ensure that all necessary tasks are being taken care of.

Introduction to Zen

Join us at 10:30 AM for an introduction to Zen meditation.  It's meant for people new to Zen meditation as well as practitioners with questions about their contemplative practice.  This informal get together is a recurring activity, the first Saturday of the month, and it lasts typically about 90 minutes.

Guest Speaker: Tim Burkett

Please join on us on Wednesday, September 9th at 8 pm for a guest dharma talk by Tim Burkett, visiting from Minnesota Zen Meditation Center. MZMC's Guiding Teacher, Tim Burkett, began practicing in spring 1964 with Shunryu Suzuki Roshi while attending Stanford University.

Film Showing: Lost in Translation

Please join us for the continuation of our film series.   On Saturday, September 12th at 10:30 am, we will be showing Lost in Translation, followed by a discussion of how the film touches on themes in Zen teachings.

Zen Mind Beginner’s Mind Discussion

Dear friends, On Wednesday September 16 after the sitting at around 8pm we will be continuing our discussion of Zen Mind Beginner's Mind with a discussion of the chapter on Emptiness (p.137). Below you will find discussion questions. Please try to read the chapter if you can and consider the questions during this coming week.

“This Is Water” Discussion

On  September 23,  the Wednesday evening talk will be an audio presentation of “This is Water,” the commencement address given by the author David Foster Wallace at Kenyon College in May, 2005.

Garden Work Day

This Saturday September 26 will be a Garden Work Day, from 10:30 AM to noon. We'll be doing some much-needed pruning, weeding, and general clean-up in the garden areas to keep our Kannon Do looking beautiful. Everyone is welcome to be part of the crew, children included, so please join in if you can.
