Introduction to Zen

Join us at 10:30 AM for an Introduction to Zen.  This orientation is intended primarily for individuals  new to Zen practice,  as well as experienced practitioners who have  questions about their contemplative practice.  This informal get together takes place on the first Saturday of the month,  lasting  about 90 minutes.

Garden Work Day

April 23 from 10:30 AM to noon will be a garden work day. Pruning, weeding and general clean-up are on our agenda. At the same time there will be a children's Spring flower-planting event as part of our Dharma School, and all kids are welcome to join this fun activity.

Film Series: the Straight Story

The Straight Story is a Walt Disney Film directed by David Lynch. This film is based on a true story.  Alvin Straight was a farmer from Laurens, Iowa.  This film depicts his six week, 240-mile journey in 1994 on a lawnmower to visit his ailing brother across the river in Wisconsin.

Sangha Meeting & Potluck

Please join us for the Sangha meeting held in the Sangha house.  Everyone is welcome. During  these monthly meetings, the Kannon Do board - and other members and friends who attend - review the operations of our center and ensure that all necessary tasks are being taken care of.

Oryoki Training

If you plan on attending Sesshin on June 11th please join Victor Legge for Oryoki training on June 4th at 10:30 a.m. Oryoki is the traditional way that Japanese monks eat their food in monasteries.  At Sesshin 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) will be eaten Oryoki style.  Victor's teaching style is fun and informative.

Sesshin

Kannon Do will host a one-day meditation retreat, or Sesshin on June 11th. This day of mindfulness offers a rare opportunity to turn our awareness to the simple activities that sustain our lives, and that we normally take for granted: breathing, walking, eating, being attentive to the workings of our mind.
