If you plan on attending Sesshin on August 13th please join Ken Simpson for Oryoki training on August 12th at 6 p.m. Oryoki is the traditional way that Japanese monks eat their food in monasteries. At Sesshin 2 meals (breakfast and lunch) will be eaten Oryoki style. Ken's teaching style is fun and informative.
Kannon Do will host a one-day meditation retreat, or Sesshin on August 13th. This day of mindfulness offers a rare opportunity to turn our awareness to the simple activities that sustain our lives, and that we normally take for granted: breathing, walking, eating, being attentive to the workings of our mind.
Jenée Desmond-Harris, a journalist who covers race, politics and social justice came to Kannon Do on Saturday August 20th to help us understand the race-inequality-profiling situation at a deeper level than what is available through the media.

This orientation is intended primarily for individuals new to Zen practice, as well as experienced practitioners who have questions about their contemplative practice. This informal get together takes place on the first Saturday of the month, lasting about 90 minutes.
