Online Buddhism in Society Discussion Series with Dr. Grace Dammann

April 3, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am

Please join us on Saturday April 3rd, 9:00 am to 10:30 a.m. (Pacific Time), for a “Buddhism in Society” online talk and Q&A session with Dr. Grace Dammann, a recipient of the Dalai Lama’s Compassionate Spirit award for her extraordinary work with AIDS patients. An eighth-generation doctor, Grace co-founded one of the first AIDS clinics for poor people in San Francisco.

Grace was a resident at Green Gulch for decades where she lived with her partner and their adopted daughter Sabrina. She suffered a devastating accident in 2008 at the Golden Gate Bridge during her commute to Laguna Honda Hospital in San Francisco. After 48 days in a coma and a dozen surgeries, she miraculously awoke. After years of recovery, Grace became the first wheelchair-bound doctor at Laguna Honda Hospital, where she led an innovative pain clinic and rehabilitation center. She is currently working with covid patients.

During her talk at Kannon Do “Finally Getting to Be Who You Really Are: Getting Older is Great” she will explore her identity as a woman and will reflect on diversity in Zen sanghas. Her spirit, sense of humor, and incredible life force are an inspiration to those who have the fortune to meet her.
