The Straight Story is a Walt Disney Film directed by David Lynch.
This film is based on a true story. Alvin Straight was a farmer from Laurens, Iowa. This film depicts his six week, 240-mile journey in 1994 on a lawnmower to visit his ailing brother across the river in Wisconsin.
Richard Farnsworth was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Alvin.
This is a story about an old man just doing what he should do-in his own way. A languid yet vibrant film, it was filmed chronologically along the actual Straight route. It is a warm depiction of Iowa and her people.
Lynch, a painter by training, has credited his visual style to his long time meditation practice. He has called The Straight Story his most experimental film.
Rated G, 112 min.
