DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday evening\, May 7th Zoketsu Norman Fischer\, founder and director of Everyday Zen Foundation\, will give an in-person dharma talk followed by a discussion. \nZoketsu Norman Fischer was ordained by Zentatsu Richard Baker in 1980 and received shiho (Dharma transmission) from Sojun Mel Weitsman in 1988. He practiced at the San Francisco Zen Center for 25 years\, serving as co-abbot from 1995 to 2000\, when he founded the Everyday Zen Foundation\, which he continues to lead. An author and poet\, his most recent Dharma books are When You Greet Me I Bow: Notes and Reflections From a Life in Zen; Mountains and Rivers Sutra: Teachings by Norman Fischer; and The World Could Be Otherwise: Imagination and the Bodhisattva Path. His most recent poetry titles include Through a Window\, Men in Suits: A Poem\, and Selected Poems (1980-2013). His websites are NormanFischer.org and EverydayZen.org. DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday evening\, May 14th\, Myogen Neal Shorstein\, ophthalmologist\, researcher\, and Zen Buddhist priest in the Everyday Zen sangha will give an in-person dharma talk followed by a discussion. \nMyogen Neal Shorstein was ordained in 2018 by Zoketsu Norman Fischer and was shuso for the Spring practice period for Everyday Zen in 2023. Neal has led meditation groups for physicians and stroke recovery patients at Kaiser Permanente in Walnut Creek\, California. He has volunteered with Berkeley-based Seva Foundation sharing advanced cataract surgery skills while learning local techniques in Asia and South America since 2005.
