SUMMARY:Rohatsu Sesshin
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a two-day Rohatsu sesshin on Friday and Saturday\, December 5th and 6th at Kannon Do. Kannon Do and Zen Heart Sangha will jointly host the sesshin. It will be led by Misha Shungen Merrill\, who is a Dharma heir of Les Kaye’s and is Guiding Teacher for the Zen Heart Sangha. The word Rohatsu is Japanese and means “8th Day of the 12th Month” which marks the day on which the historical Buddha reached enlightenment under a Bodhi tree. We are looking forward to another year where we can gather together and immerse ourselves in this ancient Zen tradition. \nThe Rohatsu Sesshin will be held from 8 am – 5 pm each day and will include a modified oryoki lunch. This sesshin is appropriate for first timers and experienced practitioners. Due to space considerations\, the retreat may be limited to 15 people for each sangha\, with preference given to those attending the full retreat. \nParticipants are encouraged to engage deeply in our practice by attending both days of the sesshin. However\, if you have work or other obligations that prohibit you from attending both days\, you are welcome to attend for the day that you are available. \nNote: Our normal Saturday morning schedule will be modified on December 6th\, with no morning activities prior to 8 am. \nRegistration:\nTo attend\, please sign up using this form. \nThe suggested fee of $50/day includes the cost of lunch\, tea and treats\, and dana for the teacher. In order to ensure that everyone can attend\, larger donations would be greatly appreciated as a way to support others who may need to pay less. Thank you for your generosity!  Please contact anna@kannondo.org if you have questions or concerns.

SUMMARY:One-Day Meditation Retreat led by Zoketsu Norman Fischer
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE REGISTER HERE FOR THE ONE DAY SITTING. \nKannon Do will host a one-day sitting on Saturday\, October 11th. It is led by Zoketsu Norman Fischer\, founder and director of Everyday Zen Foundation. This day of mindfulness offers a rare opportunity to turn our awareness to the simple activities that sustain our lives\, and that we normally take for granted: breathing\, walking\, eating\, being attentive to the workings of our mind. The distractions and pressures of daily responsibilities diminish\, giving a wider world view a chance to appear\, along with a sense of gratitude and calmness. We encourage you to organize your schedule so that you can attend this one day retreat. If you are interested in attending or have questions\, please contact Dan Geiger at dan@dangeiger.com. \nZoketsu Norman Fischer was ordained by Zentatsu Richard Baker in 1980 and received shiho (Dharma transmission) from Sojun Mel Weitsman in 1988. He practiced at the San Francisco Zen Center for 25 years\, serving as co-abbot from 1995 to 2000\, when he founded the Everyday Zen Foundation\, which he continues to lead. An author and poet\, his most recent Dharma books are When You Greet Me I Bow: Notes and Reflections From a Life in Zen; Mountains and Rivers Sutra: Teachings by Norman Fischer; and The World Could Be Otherwise: Imagination and the Bodhisattva Path. His most recent poetry titles include Through a Window\, Men in Suits: A Poem\, and Selected Poems (1980-2013). His websites are NormanFischer.org and EverydayZen.org. Norman and his wife Kathie have been married for more than four decades. \n
