SUMMARY:Saturday Morning of Mindfulness with Ando Jaune Evans
DESCRIPTION:Kannon Do welcomes Ando Jaune Evans to lead us in our Saturday morning program.  Jaune is a priest and senior teacher at the Bay Area Everyday Zen Foundation. This morning of mindfulness offers a rare opportunity to turn our awareness to the simple activities that sustain our lives: breathing\, walking\, eating\, and being attentive to the workings of our mind. We encourage you attend the entire morning\, however you are welcome to take part in any of our morning activities as your schedule permits. In addition to our normal Saturday schedule\, Jaune will offer dokusan (private\, individual practice discussions) during periods of zazen as well as a dharma talk at 10:30 am. \nThe schedule is as follows: \n\n     Zazen:  5:30 – 6:10am\n     Kinhin: 6:10 – 6:20am\n     Zazen: 6:20 – 7:00am\n     Service: 7:00 – 7:30am\n     Breakfast: 7:30 – 8:10am\n     Temple Cleaning: 8:10 – 9:10am\n     Zazen: 9:30 – 10:10am\n    Dharma talk and discussion: 10:30 – noon \n\nAndo Jaune Evans was originally ordained as a priest in the White Plum Lineage by Bernie Glassman and Taizan Maezumi Roshi in 1983 at the Zen Community of New York. She leads the Heart of Compassion Zen Sangha in Point Reyes\, California. Jaune works as the Executive Director of Tamalpais Trust\, a philanthropic foundation which supports and helps to protect Indigenous Peoples’ sacred lands and waters\, cultural and human rights\, gender empowerment\, and global justice alliance-building. She serves on the Board of Directors of Commonweal\, the leadership team of Healing Circles\, and is an Advisor to both the Board of the UC Berkeley Human Rights Center and Mesa Refuge Writer’s Refuge.

SUMMARY:In-person Dharma Talk: Travis Marsot
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday evening\, January 8th\,  Travis will give an in-person Dharma talk followed by a discussion. \nTravis Marsot was born in Ft. Madison\, Iowa\, a small town along the Mississippi River\, in 1975.  A love of tennis took him to a service academy for two years.  Travis currently works as an engineer in medical devices and robotic surgery in Silicon Valley. He specializes in design management and systems verification. \nTravis walked into Kannon Do on a sunny spring Saturday morning in 2014\, when he received his first zazen (sitting meditation) instruction.  The zendo (meditation hall) had just been cleaned and there was no clutter. The large sun-filled room devoid of clutter\, even in the corners\, is still memorable to Travis\, as well as the few minutes he sat silently with the zazen instructors. He was ordained as a zen priest by his teacher Keido Les Kaye in 2016.  Travis served as a board member and officer at Kannon Do from 2019-2022.  He attended a practice period at Tassajara in 2021\, and served on the temple staff there. \nTravis resides part-time in the Sierras\, where he finds a physical lifestyle in nature that complements his professional activities. He has been married to his wife Rhea for twenty five years.
